Unveiling the Next Chapter - Trends and Innovations in Fixed Income Investing

We have now exited a prolonged period of extraordinarily low interest rates, and major central banks have started to unwind many of the programs designed to inject liquidity into bond markets. Yields on some of the world’s major bond markets are now back where they were 10–15 years ago, but since the Great Financial Crisis the bond market structure has changed significantly. Importantly, these changes have taken place under the blanket of liquidity provided by central banks. The question for investors is what challenges and opportunities does this pose in the future, as liquidity provision from central banks is rolled back?
In his presentation Stephen Yeats, CFA, Global Head of Fixed Income Beta at State Street Global Advisors, will explore the key drivers behind some of the profound changes in bond market structure and explore implications for investors. He will look at how the rise of ETFs, electronic trading and index investing has contributed to changes in liquidity dynamics and transparency. Stephen will touch on how public and private credit markets might evolve and interact as higher rates feed through to borrowers, and how investors might now think about liquidity in their fixed income portfolios - to take advantage of some of the opportunities arising from these changes.

Stephen Yeats
Stephen is a Senior Managing Director and Global Head of Fixed Income Beta Solutions. He is also UK Head of Investments. In his fixed income role, Stephen is responsible for over $500bn of fixed income assets, and a team of more than 40 investment professionals, working in seven locations globally. As UK Head of Investments Stephen has supervisory responsibility for investment staff in the UK, across a wide range of asset classes and investment styles.
Stephen is a member of SSGA's Executive Management Group and EMEA ExCo, as well as the Global Investment, EMEA Risk and UK Senior Management Committees.
He graduated with a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering from Nottingham University and has also earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. He is a member of the UK Society of Investment Professionals and the CFA Institute.

In the role of country manager, Dario is overseeing all activities which are taking place out to the Swiss Office, this includes Institutional Client Group, SPDR ETFs and regulatory operations. In the role as Head of the Swiss Institutional Client Group, Dario leads the business development and relationship management efforts to all Swiss institutional investors including pension funds, banks, wealth managers, intermediaries, insurances, foundations and other institutional investors as well as investment consultants.
Dario joined State Street Global Advisors in 2008 and has since been focusing on the business development and relationship management in Switzerland. Prior to joining State Street Global Advisors, Dario worked for Allianz Suisse in Zurich in both insurance and asset management roles.
Dario is a Certified International Investment Analyst (CIIA) and a member of the Swiss Financial Analyst Association. He is also a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) and graduated in Economics and Business Administration at the Swiss Institute of Business Administration.

Roman Baumann is Head of Asset Management at Swiss National Bank. His division is responsible for managing Switzerland’s foreign currency reserves. He chairs the investment committee.
He joined SNB in 2003 as a Risk Analyst. In 2004, he moved to Asset Management as a credit portfolio manager. Three years later, he was named Deputy Head of Asset Management as well as Head of Global Rates. In 2013, he established SNB’s only foreign branch. He acted as Head of the Singapore Office and until 2016. After his return to Switzerland, he became Head of Money Market, the group responsible for monetary policy implementation in domestic markets, before he moved back to Asset Management in 2022.
Roman Baumann holds a Master’s degree in Finance and Economics from the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. He is a CFA Charterholder and Member of the Swiss CFA Society. He is a Financial Risk Manager (FRM) as well as a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA).
