Volunteer Position: Research Challenge
CFA Institute Research Challenge is an equity research competition among student teams from the world's top university business and finance programs. Students write an equity research report on a publicly traded Swiss subject company and present their findings to an expert panel.
We expect more than 30 student teams from Swiss universities and universities of applied sciences and the University of Liechtenstein to participate in the next competition.
The Swiss Final will take place in Feb 2025 in Zurich. The winning team(s) will progress to the EMEA Sub-regional Final and potentially to the EMEA Semi-regional Final at the in March/April 2025 and to the Global Final taking place at the end of April or May 2025..
We are seeking volunteers to support the students during the competition as industry mentors, graders, presentation skills coaches, and industry experts. It is our goal to teach the best practices in equity research and corporate analysis. We expect most of the large universities to participate and to field a team of their best final year master students.
We are looking for active participation of our members to support the society's University Relations Committee in this exciting undertaking for the following roles:
Industry Mentor
- Mentoring student groups in establishing their research report and their presentation
- 6 hours commitment, in-person preferred virtual possible; decentral; mostly Q4 2024
- CFA Charterholder
- Experience in equity or corporate credit analysis or investment banking, sales experience is useful
- 4 PL Credits

Grader
- Grading student research reports on an independent basis according to a set catalog of criteria
- 6 hours commitment, work performed remotely and at own pace; between January and February 2025

- Teaching presentation skills to students at the respective universities

Volunteer Position: Swiss Pensions Conference Committees
The Swiss Pensions Conference (SPC) is the leading independent event for pensions’ decision makers in Switzerland and CFA Society Switzerland’s flagship event since 2011. SPC is conducted annually with two installments, covering the French speaking part in Geneva and the German speaking part in Zurich.
Based in Geneva and Zurich, two agenda teams composed of volunteer pension experts from highly recognized institutions, convene every year to approach the unique annual motto from two different angles, applying CFA Society Switzerland’s unique Peers 4 Peers approach. This affords more than 100 delegates who attend both conferences the opportunity to grasp the subtle differences in practice and approach between the two parts of the country.
Requirements
- Extensive work experience in pension fund (or insurance) industry (advantage investment roles)
- Excellent professional network
- Time required for this role: 3-4 hours per month
- Duration of engagement: minimum 1 year (prolongation to the second year possible) starting September 2024)
- Ideally CFA charter holder and member of CFA Society Switzerland
Roles and Responsibilities
- Attends biweekly team meetings (conference calls and in-person meetings)
- During meetings, actively contributes to discussions leading to development of the Swiss Pensions Conference agenda
- Outside meetings, research and identification of relevant topics and speakers
- Actively promotes conference and related events to his/her professional network

Volunteer Position: Professional Learning Committee
The Professional Learning (PL) Committee promotes continuing professional development programs to meet the needs of local members and investment community with a focus on these tasks:
- Organizing webinars
- Organizing lunch and evening seminars, half-day or full-day events, and special events in collaboration with CFA Institute
- Developing new PL formats and coordinating local efforts with volunteers
- Measuring and reporting the quality of PL events to the Board
Requirements
- Time required for this role: 2-3 hours per month
- Enthusiastic about professional learning
- Creative and communicative
- Ideally CFA charterholder and member of CFA Society Switzerland
Roles and Responsibilities
- During meetings, she/he actively participates in discussions by researching relevant event concepts
- Eager to perform tasks
- Actively promotes events to his/her professional network

The Member Networking Events Committee plans and delivers networking events to:
- Help organize major social events.
- Plan other social activities like networking drinks and lunches, wine tastings, sporting events and summer activities.

- Enthusiastic about using their skills and network to build new initiatives
- Creative and communicative

- Eager to perform tasks
