Edward Chancellor

His most recent book is ‘The Price of Time – the real story of interest‘ (July 2022).  In this book, Edward illustrates how extremely low interest rates create asset price inflation but are also largely responsible for the weak economic growth, rising inequality, elevated debt levels, and pensions crises that have impacted our economies in recent years.   Meanwhile, access to easy money in China has inflated their real estate sector and has created an epic credit and investment boom.  He forewarns that the global financial system is moving closer to another major crisis.  The book was longlisted for the FT Business Book of the Year 2022.  It was also listed by Amazon as a top business book of 2022.   This book won the 2023 Hayek Book Prize from the Manhattan Institute.

His prior books are  Devil Take the Hindmost: A History of Financial Speculation which has been translated into many languages and was a New York Times Book of the Year. He also wrote ‘Crunch-Time for Credit?’ and ‘Capital Returns: Investing Through the Capital Cycle: A Money Manager’s Reports 2002-2015″.

After reading history at Cambridge and Oxford, Edward worked for Lazard Brothers and until 2014 he was a senior member of the asset allocation team at GMO. He is currently a columnist for Reuters BreakingViews and has contributed to the Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times, MoneyWeek and the New York Review of Books. In 2008, he received the George Polk Award for financial reporting for his article “Ponzi Nation” in Institutional Investor.

Lindsey Matthews, CFA

Lindsey is the Chief Risk Officer of Universities Superannuation Scheme, the UK’s largest private pension scheme, and USSIM, its in-house investment management business which manages the scheme’s £70bn of assets.  He oversees ALM and funding risk for the scheme, investment risk and performance, and information security, enterprise and operational risk.  Over the last 3 years he has designed and implemented a new enterprise risk appetite framework and co-sponsored a new investment framework for the organisation.  He is also immediate past Chair of the Board of CFA UK, having previously chaired the Exams and Education Committee and now chairs the Advisory Council.

He was previously at UBS for 28 years, working in the Investment Bank, as a senior advisor in Wealth Management, and latterly as Global Head of Investment Risk  and EMEA and UK Chief Risk Officer for UBS Asset Management.  Along the way he co-headed a business providing Risk and Performance Analytics to asset owners and managers, was Head of Risk Education and Communication for the UBS Group and ran the middle office function for all derivatives.  He is also a visiting fellow at ICMA Centre, Henley Business School, University of Reading.  He is also a member of the Investment Committee of Constanter Stiftung, a charitable foundation.

Prof. Carolina Salva

Prof. Carolina Salva is a Professor of Finance and Director of the Institute of Financial Analysis at the University of Neuchatel. She has worked and published on pension management, sustainability, governance, financial markets and corporate finance. Her recent work has focused on studying decision-making and governance of financial intermediaries, particularly Swiss pension funds. She is engaged in promoting knowledge transfer, aiming to leverage academic insights to enhance practical investment management and the development of pension institutions.

Carolina has also developed professional activities in the private sector as a consultant and as an investment manager, and has been involved in mandates and coaching assignments for different medium-sized and multinational companies. She has gathered significant experience in management roles and is a regular member of various boards and commissions. 

She has ample teaching experience having taught in various master and executive education programs in Switzerland (University of Neuchatel, HEC Lausanne, University of Bern), Belgium (Vlerick Business School), Spain (IE Business School) and France (University of Strasbourg). She holds a PhD and a master degree in Financial Economics from Cornell University, USA, and a bachelor degree from University of Barcelona.

Michael Haene, CFA, FRM

Michael Haene is a member of the investment team of the City of Zurich Pension Fund. His main responsibilities include listed corporate investments, the Fund’s sustainability and climate strategy as well as projects related to strategic asset allocation. He has been working in the industry for more than 25 years and previously worked with Deutsche Asset Management as a Multi-Asset Portfolio Manager, with Credit Suisse as Strategist, Investment Risk Analyst and Multi-Asset Portfolio Manager and with Neue Aargauer Bank as a Foreign Exchange Trader. Michael Haene has an MAS in Pension Fund Management from the University of Lucerne, a BA in Philosophy and Social Anthropology from the University of Fribourg, and a Diploma in Business Administration. He is both a CFA Charterholder and a Financial Risk Manager certified by the Global Association of Risk Professionals. During 2019-2020 he completed in the Advanced Sustainability Executive Program of University of St. Gallen (HSG) & Mission Possible Foundation.

My research in a few words:

As a geomorphologist and mountain enthusiast, I study erosion processes at mid and high altitudes,

particularly in the face of ongoing climate change. My main areas of research are permafrost-affected

rock slopes and glaciers, two elements of a 'cryosphere' that is particularly hard hit by rising temperatures.

I am specialised in everything that falls in the mountains: rock, ice, infrastructure, etc. The aim of this

research is to produce theoretical knowledge, but also to respond to society's questions in terms of

natural risk management and changes in practices.

Conference synopsis: High mountains and mountaineers facing climate

Like mountaineers, we'll set off from the bottom of an Alpine valley towards the highest peaks. At each

stage, we'll see how geomorphological processes have shaped the landscape and how global warming

(two to three times faster in the Alps than elsewhere) is affecting particularly sensitive mountain

environments. We'll also take the opportunity to gain a better understanding

Jessica Mosher

Ms. Jessica Mosher is a policy analyst and actuary in the Insurance and Pensions Unit of the OECD. Drawing on more than fifteen years of experience working on topics relating to the regulation and risk management of pensions and life insurance in an international context, her work aims to inform policies to improve pension design and the sustainability and adequacy of retirement income. 

Prior to joining the OECD in 2013, she was working in the central risk management team of a global insurer where she was mainly responsible for developing the modelling of life risks under Solvency II. 

Jessica is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (USA), holds an MSc in Behavioural Science from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a BS in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

John Ploeg, CFA

John Ploeg, CFA, is a Principal and Co-Head of ESG Research for PGIM Fixed Income, based in London. Mr. Ploeg is responsible for the strategic integration of ESG research across all elements of the firm, including investment decision-making, and internal and external education and engagement. He also serves as a member of the ESG Policy and ESG Ratings Sub-Committees. Prior to joining the ESG team, Mr. Ploeg graduated summa cum laude from Sciences Po’s Paris School of International Affairs, where Mr. Ploeg received a Masters in Environmental Policy. Previously, Mr. Ploeg was head of the firm’s European CLO product management team, where he was responsible for all business aspects of the firm’s European CLO platform. Prior to relocating to London, Mr. Ploeg was a member of the Firm’s U.S. CLO product management team in Newark. Before that, Mr. Ploeg worked in the CIO department of PGIM’s parent company, Prudential Financial Inc, first in the department's Alternative Assets Group, and later in its Modelling & Analytics Group. Mr. Ploeg received a dual BA degree in Computer Science and Economics from Brown University in 2007, and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Matthew Morgan, CFA

Matthew is Head of Fixed Income, with overall responsibility for the management of Jupiter's fixed income investment professionals, and the commercial and business strategy of Jupiter Fixed Income. Matt reports directly to CEO Matthew Beesley and is a member of the Senior Management Team.

Matt joined Jupiter in 2019 and in his most recent position was lead Investment Director across Jupiter’s fixed income and multi-asset businesses. Previously Matt spent 13 years at BlackRock, where he was a director with lead responsibility for BlackRock’s relationships with some of the UK’s largest financial institutions. Matt has a degree in History and Modern Languages and is a CFA Charterholder.

Guillaume Rabault

Guillaume Rabault is Global CIO, Quantitative Strategies, ETF and Indexing within HSBC Asset Management and has been working in the industry since 1991. Prior to assuming his current role, Guillaume was Chief Investment Officer, HSBC Global Asset Management (France) and also Global Head Investment Process Research, HSBC Global Asset Management. Before joining HSBC Group in 2000, Guillaume worked for the French Ministry of Finance for nine years as an economist, researcher and head of the French National Quarterly Account. Guillaume holds a master's degree from the engineering school Polytechnique (France), a master's degree in Economics and Statistics from the business school ENSAE (France) and a master's degree (DEA) in Economics and Politics from Ecole Normale Supérieure (France).

Mark Walters

Managing Director, is an investment principal in the Infrastructure Investments Group, based in London. Mark is primarily responsible for leading the Group’s investment activity across the European power and utilities sector having joined the firm in 2009. Mark has previously held board positions at Electricity North West, Southern Water Services, Zephyr and the resulting Ventient Energy. As a current lead investment principal for Adven, GETEC and Falck, Mark is responsible for providing ongoing strategic guidance to the boards and executives of these newly acquired portfolio companies. Prior to JPMAM, Mark spent time working with Macquarie Capital’s European Advisory team having started his career at Arthur Andersen, and subsequently Deloitte, practicing as a chartered accountant. Mark holds a B.S.c (Hons) degree from the University of Manchester in England and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Anne Berner

has been serving as a board member on several listed companies in Finland, and is currently a member of the SEB board. Anne was elected into the Finnish Parliament for Uusimaa in 2015 as a nonpartisan candidate for the Centre Party of Finland. She was then appointed to the Sipilä's government, as the Minister of Transport and Communications in May 2015. Upon appointment to the government, she took the Centre Party membership. Anne's duties also included acting as the minister for Nordic Cooperation and the minister for Åland Island affairs.
