Volunteer Position: Careers Committee Member

Join the Careers Committee as a great way to develop recognition within the CFA community.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate has a strong background and interest in human resources.
  • Extensive work experience in human resources.
  • Excellent professional network.
  • Duration of engagement: minimum 1 year (prolongation possible).
  • Enthusiastic about using their skills to help our members advance their careers.

Roles/ Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the discussion on careers management. 
  • Lead careers events and speaker selection.

  • Discuss new ideas and implement them.

Volunteer Position: Professional Learning Committee Members (1-2)

Joining the Professional Learning Committee as a great way to meet peers in your sector and get even more from your CFA Switzerland membership.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate has a strong background and interest in continuing education.
  • Genuine interest in knowledge-building activities and the concept of lifelong learning.
  • Excellent network of knowledge experts.
  • Time required for this role: 3-4 hours per month. 
  • Duration of engagement: minimum 1 year (prolongation possible).
  • CFA charterholder and member of CFA Society Switzerland.

Roles/ Responsibilities

  • Actively contributing to discussions leading to development of the PL agenda.
  • Attending monthly PL Committee meetings (usually virtually).
  • Outside meetings, pro-actively researching and identifying relevant topics and speakers.
  • Actively promoting PL events to his/her professional network.
  • Time required for this role: 3-4 hours per month. 
  • Duration of engagement: minimum 1 year (prolongation possible).

Volunteer Position: Advocacy Sub-committee: Study on Negative Interest Rates

Join the Advocacy Sub-committee Study on Negative Interest Rates, one of the most significant factors in the current investing environment. This is a great way to meet peers in your speciality sector during the preparation of the study, and to highlight your expertise on publication of the study. the study is expected to be publishes in late summer or early autumn.

This is a short-term project with one key deliverable, a study including: various perspectives on negative interest rates. 
Part 1: a macro-economic analysis of the negative interest rate environment, including monetary, and fiscal policy, economic growth, and the effect on the booking sector.
Part 2: The effects on various asset classes. This is a great way to meet peers in your speciality sector during the preparation of the study, and on publication of the study to highlight your expertise .

Requirements

Candidates must have a deep experience, eg as an analyst or specialist in one of the following areas:

  • Macro economic environment, especially as it relates to negative interest rates.
  • Banking sector (leverage in the banking sector, risk of a bank run in case of an unexpected.
  • Significant further interest cut in Switzerland, systemic risk.
  • Interest rates / bonds with CHF focus.
  • Currency - Swiss Franc.
  • Equity.
  • Real estate or
  • Private markets/equity.
  • Commodities (incl. precious metals).

Roles/ Responsibilities

  • Actively contributing to the development of a paper on negative interest rates in Switzerland.
  • Attending regulate meetings of the working group (usually virtually).
  • Pro-actively researching and identifying concepts relevant to the subject.
  • Actively promoting study to his/her professional network.

Volunteer Position: University Relations Committee Members (2-5)

Universities create the pipeline of future investment management professionals and potential CFA candidates. The University Relations Committee’s mission is to foster relations with major universities and universities of applied sciences with a view to sustainably optimizing that pipeline, thereby supporting CFA Institute’s overall mission to serve clients and society.

Requirements

  • Genuine interest in knowledge-building activities and the concept of lifelong learning.
  • Senior professional profile and broad professional network.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Optional: studied and/or affiliated with the school covered, faculty member.
  • CFA charterholder and member of CFA Society Switzerland; Master degree or higher.

Roles/ Responsibilities

We are looking for new members (2–5) to support some of committee’s activities:

  • Key Account Management to cover schools, particularly with respect to the University Affiliation Program, but also generally maintains relationships with the leadership (dean, president). Focus on the faculty of economics / BA.
  • Position CFA and its other credentialing programs as a key continuing education after the Bachelor or Master program, across all areas of study.
  • Active and proactive provisioning of guest speakers and practitioner teaching staff (e.g. lecturer) to relevant professors.
  • Selectively hold guest lectures in their own area of expertise.
  • Active involvement in university activities (e.g. Dies Academicus, graduation  ceremonies, important meetings).
  • Marketing of CFA brand and all credentialing programs (presentations, information sessions, flyers) covering all faculties.
  • Promotes and supports the CFA Institute Research Challenge in Switzerland.
  • Selectively partners up with other professional bodies on a local level.
  • Time required for this role: on average one hour per month.
  • Attending quarterly Committee meetings.
  • During meetings, actively contributing to discussions leading to development of committee’s activities.
  • Outside meetings, pro-actively participate in assigned activities listed above.

Volunteer Position: Candidates Committee Member

Join the Candidates Committee as a great way to use your experience passing the CFA exam to help others and  to develop recognition within the CFA community.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate has successfully passed CFA level I / II or III in the past three years.
  • The ideal candidate has passion for education and the process of obtaining the CFA designation.
  • Enthusiastic about using your skills to help our candidates to succeed in their CFA journey.
  • Duration of engagement: minimum 1 year (prolongation possible).

Roles and responsibilities 

  • Contribute to our efforts to support candidates to pass all three exams.
  • Offer candidates support in preparing for the exams and by fostering a sense of community, through opportunities for knowledge exchange and social gatherings to network.
  • Bring high energy and enthusiasm to the committee.
  • Discuss new ideas and implement them.
  • Time required for this role: 2-3 hours per month.
