Volunteer Position: University Relations Committee

The University Relations Committee’s mission is to foster relations with major universities and universities of applied sciences, thereby supporting CFA Institute’s overall mission to serve clients and society.

We are looking for new members (1–2) to support some of committee’s activities:

  • Key Account Management support to cover schools (University of Fribourg, FHNW), particularly with respect to the University Affiliation Program, but also generally maintains relationships with the leadership (dean, president). Focus on the faculty of economics / BA 
  • Position CFA and its other credentialing programs as a key continuing education after the Bachelor or Master program, across all areas of study
  • Active and proactive provisioning of guest speakers and practitioner teaching staff (e.g. lecturer) to relevant professors
  • Selectively hold guest lectures in their own area of expertise
  • Active involvement in university activities (e.g. Dies Academicus, graduation  ceremonies, important meetings)
  • Marketing of CFA brand and all credentialing programs (presentations, information sessions, flyers) covering all faculties
  • Promotes and supports the CFA Institute Research Challenge in Switzerland
  • Selectively partners up with other professional bodies on a local level

Requirements

CFA charterholder and member of CFA Society Switzerland; Master degree or higher

  • Junior or senior professional profile 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Optional: studied and/or affiliated with the school covered, faculty member
  • Time required for this role: on average one hour per month 
  • Duration of engagement: minimum 2-3 years, starting September 2022
  • Genuine interest in knowledge-building activities and the concept of lifelong learning

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Attending quarterly Committee meetings
  • During meetings, actively contributing to discussions leading to development of committee’s activities
  • Outside meetings, pro-actively participate in assigned activities listed above

Volunteer Position: Research Challenge

CFA Institute Research Challenge is an equity research competition among student teams from the world's top university business and finance programs. Students write an equity research report on a publicly traded Swiss subject company and present their findings to an expert panel. 

We expect more than 30 student teams from Swiss universities and universities of applied sciences and the University of Liechtenstein to participate in the next competition. 

The Swiss Final will take place in Feb 2023 in Zurich. The winning team(s) will progress to the EMEA Sub-regional Final and potentially to the EMEA Semi-regional Final at the in March/April 2023 and to the Global Final taking place at the end of April 2023. 

We are seeking volunteers to support the students during the competition as industry mentors, graders, presentation skills coaches, and industry experts. It is our goal to teach the best practices in equity research and corporate analysis. We expect most of the large universities to participate and to field a team of their best final year master students. 

We are looking for active participation of our members to support the society's University Relations Committee in this exciting undertaking for the following roles:

Industry Mentor 

  • Mentoring student groups in establishing their research report and their presentation
  • 6 hours commitment, in-person preferred virtual possible; decentral; mostly Q4 2022 
  • CFA Charterholder
  • Experience in equity or corporate credit analysis or investment banking, sales experience is useful
  • 4 PL Credits

Volunteer Position: Swiss Pensions Conference Committees

The Swiss Pensions Conference (SPC) is the leading independent event for pensions’ decision makers in Switzerland and CFA Society Switzerland’s flagship event since 2012. SPC is conducted annually with two installments, covering the French speaking part in Geneva and the German speaking part in Zurich.

Based in Geneva and Zurich, two agenda teams composed of volunteer pension experts from highly recognized institutions, convene every year to approach the unique annual motto from two different angles, applying CFA Society Switzerland’s unique Peers 4 Peers approach. This affords more than 100 delegates who attend both conferences the opportunity to grasp the subtle differences in practice and approach between the two parts of the country.

Requirements

  • Extensive work experience in pension fund (or insurance) industry (advantage investment roles)
  • Excellent professional network
  • Time required for this role: 3-4 hours per month 
  • Duration of engagement: minimum 1 year (prolongation to the second year possible) starting September 2022)
  • Ideally CFA charterholder and member of CFA Society Switzerland

Volunteer Position: Generations Conference (Family Office Conference)

The annual Generations Conference is an independent, personable forum of education dedicated to the real issues and unique challenges facing family businesses, Family Offices (FOs) and Family Foundations as well as asset owners. The conference offers a one day program to a select number of principals and professionals working for Family Offices to connect with like-minded thought leaders and peers in the industry and discuss challenges, leading practices and trends in Family Office private investing and much more.

The agenda committee assembles every year to create the conference program. 

Requirements

  • Ideally CFA charterholder and member of CFA Society Switzerland
  • Extensive work experience in family office industry

Volunteer Position: Membership 2023 Committee 

The Membership Committee aims to create a leading community of Investment Professionals in Switzerland. The committee strives to ensure all Regular and Affiliate members of our community have a platform to:

  1. Connect with fellow members to share ideas, develop contacts and obtain referrals to enhance their careers.
  2. Grow with critical life-long investment knowledge, skills and solutions for themselves, colleagues and clients. 
  3. Lead in their career, profession, industry and society to make a difference.

We foster this by creating a local network where members have priority access to career resources, professional learning opportunities, volunteer opportunities, educational and networking events.

  • Advise on membership feedback surveys to assess satisfaction with various membership value propositions.
