Candidates Committee senior member requirements:

  • Willingness to make things happen

  • Enjoy planning and attending networking events

  • Duration of engagement: minimum 2 years (prolongation possible)
  • Young professional who preferably passed all three Levels of the CFA
  • “Candidate / Student Member” or “Regular Member” of the CFA Society Switzerland
  • Available for bi-weekly committee calls and having several hours per month available for volunteer work

           Roles/ Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for preparing and performing the “How to succeed in Finance” series together with another volunteer
  • Think about needs of candidates and address them/discuss new ideas (and implement them)
  • Pro-actively researching and identifying relevant topics (and speakers) interesting for CFA candidates and students
  • Bring high energy and enthusiasm to the committee


Candidates Committee junior member requirements:

Volunteer Position: ESG Committee

 

The objective of the ESG Committee is to promote the standardization initiatives of CFA Institute in the ESG investment area, to raise the Society’s views in the industry discussions and to foster cooperation with other Swiss industry associations and stakeholder groups with respect to ESG investments.

The ESG Sub-Committee was formed as a subcommittee of the Advocacy Committee of CFA Society Switzerland in 2020 due to an increasing importance of the ESG and sustainability matters in the Swiss investment community.

The ESG committee is composed of the representatives of investment managers, asset owners, consulting firms, law firms and audit firms, and is chaired by Dimitri Senik CFA, who also chairs the ESG Verification Subcommittee of CFA Institute. The committee members are very passionate about ESG Investing and are engaged in the ESG-related activities in their organisations.

Volunteer Position: Generations Conference (Family Office Conference)

The annual Generations Conference is an independent, personable forum of education dedicated to the real issues and unique challenges facing family businesses, Family Offices (FOs) and Family Foundations as well as asset owners. The conference offers a one day program to a select number of principals and professionals working for Family Offices to connect with like-minded thought leaders and peers in the industry and discuss challenges, leading practices and trends in Family Office private investing and much more.

The agenda committee assembles every year to create the conference program. 

Requirements

  • Ideally CFA charterholder and member of CFA Society Switzerland
  • Extensive work experience in family office industry 
  • Excellent professional network
  • Time required for this role: 2-3 hours per month 
  • Duration of engagement: minimum 1 year (prolongation to the second year possible) starting November 2022

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Attends biweekly team meetings (conference calls and in-person meetings)
  • During meetings, actively contributes to discussions leading to development of the Generations Conference agenda 
  • Outside meetings, research and identify relevant topics and speakers
  • Actively promotes conference and related events to his/her professional network

The Membership Committee aims to create a leading community of Investment Professionals in Switzerland. The committee strives to ensure all Regular and Affiliate members of our community have a platform to:

  1. Connect with fellow members to share ideas, develop contacts and obtain referrals to enhance their careers.
  2. Grow with critical life-long investment knowledge, skills and solutions for themselves, colleagues and clients.

The Professional Learning (PL) Committee promotes continuing professional development programs to meet the needs of local members and investment community with a focus on these tasks:

  • Organizing webinars
  • Organizing lunch and evening seminars, half-day or full-day events, and special events in collaboration with CFA Institute.
  • Developing new PL formats and coordinating local efforts with volunteers.
  • Measuring and reporting the quality of PL events to the Board.

Volunteer Position: Research Challenge

CFA Institute Research Challenge is an equity research competition among student teams from the world's top university business and finance programs. Students write an equity research report on a publicly traded Swiss subject company and present their findings to an expert panel. 

We expect more than 30 student teams from Swiss universities and universities of applied sciences and the University of Liechtenstein to participate in the next competition. 

The Swiss Final will take place in Feb 2024 in Zurich. The winning team(s) will progress to the EMEA Sub-regional Final and potentially to the EMEA Semi-regional Final at the in March/April 2024 and to the Global Final taking place at the end of April or beging of May 2024. 

We are seeking volunteers to support the students during the competition as industry mentors, graders, presentation skills coaches, and industry experts. It is our goal to teach the best practices in equity research and corporate analysis. We expect most of the large universities to participate and to field a team of their best final year master students. 

We are looking for active participation of our members to support the society's University Relations Committee in this exciting undertaking for the following roles:

Industry Mentor 

  • Mentoring student groups in establishing their research report and their presentation
  • 6 hours commitment, in-person preferred virtual possible; decentral; mostly Q4 2023 
  • CFA Charterholder
  • Experience in equity or corporate credit analysis or investment banking, sales experience is useful
  • 4 PL Credits

Volunteer Position: Swiss Pensions Conference Committees

The Swiss Pensions Conference (SPC) is the leading independent event for pensions’ decision makers in Switzerland and CFA Society Switzerland’s flagship event since 2012. SPC is conducted annually with two installments, covering the French speaking part in Geneva and the German speaking part in Zurich.

Based in Geneva and Zurich, two agenda teams composed of volunteer pension experts from highly recognized institutions, convene every year to approach the unique annual motto from two different angles, applying CFA Society Switzerland’s unique Peers 4 Peers approach. This affords more than 100 delegates who attend both conferences the opportunity to grasp the subtle differences in practice and approach between the two parts of the country.

  • Extensive work experience in pension fund (or insurance) industry (advantage investment roles)
  • Excellent professional network
  • Time required for this role: 3-4 hours per month
